Female sexual dysfunction

Getting support

Man and woman talkingAdmitting you experience female sexual dysfunction can be difficult to accept for many reasons. But seeking help and support is the first step to overcoming the problem.

Once you have tackled the first hurdle of accepting help, getting the right support should improve your quality of life.

Professional help

It is important you try and speak to a healthcare professional about any sexual problems. Although treatment is more limited than that on offer for men, there are options worth considering.

Your partner

If you are having problems with lack of desire, arousal, orgasm or pain during sex, try to discuss them with your partner (if you have one). Talking openly is essential in helping to solve the problem as it breaks down barriers and helps you understand each other’s sexual and emotional needs.

Other people’s experiences

It can be comforting to hear about people who are already experiencing similar problems. Take a look at our 'How it affects me' page to read other people's true accounts of how they cope with sexual dysfunction.
